Meet Our New Director of Bilingual Education & Community Relations!
EMHCS is excited to welcome a new face to our family! Leslie Rivera is our new Director of Bilingual Education & Community Relations.
We are excited that she has accepted our job offer and has agreed to join our team effective April 12, 2021.
Rivera comes to us with more than a decade of educational experience. A former teacher, coach and assistant principal, she's also worked as a community school site coordinator. Her formal education includes multiple professional certifications, a Bachelor’s Degree from Geneseo College, a Masters from Brockport College and an Advanced Certificate of School District Leadership K-12 from the U of R Warner School.
We're also excited about her many years working in and serving the community. She has participated in community initiatives, board / committee memberships and was also part of the Monroe County Legislature – District 29. She said she's passionate about the Rochester area and can't wait to include this love in her new position:
"I am most excited about the work," she said. "My passion has always been bilingual education and serving my community. Though I have worked in bilingual schools my entire career, I am excited to actually be able to be at the forefront of making positive changes in instruction and program to better serve our students. Working in the community where I live, helping to improve and provide equity to our bilingual program and creating a network of community partners to support and enrich what is already established is my mission." Rivera said she plans to get working right away:
"Some things I plan to do immediately is meet and get to know the staff, students and families that I will be working with. I want to ensure that I spend my first few weeks getting to know the stakeholders and the structure of the programs that are already established. I'd like to create action plans for our bilingual programing currently and for the future as well as assess our partners and plan for future partnerships."
