For math instruction, teachers use the NYS Math Modules, which correlate to the Common Core Standards and the expectations of the New York State assessments. In addition, grades 1-5 uses Zearn, which is based upon the New York State modules. Zearn provides the opportunity for small group work as well as individualized digital lessons.
English Language Arts (ELA)
For ELA instruction in grades K-2, teachers use the McGraw Hill Wonders program. It is a comprehensive program that has print and digital resources to help build a strong literacy foundation. The program has support for English Language Learners as well as supports on how to build social-emotional learning skills. For grades 3-5 ELA instruction, teachers in grades 3-5 use the EL Education 2nd edition modules which teaches and assesses all of the ELA standards at each grade level. Students build important content knowledge through the use of authentic text related to science, social studies, or literature. Teachers in grade 6 use the EL Education 1st edition modules which are aligned to the Common Core Standards.
Social Studies grades K-6 instruction: teachers use Studies Weekly, which integrates social studies and language arts. This standards-based curriculum has printed weekly units as well as a digital component.
Teachers in grades K-5 science use a newly adopted curriculum called Science A-Z. This curriculum integrates both science and literacy. It also has a selection of Spanish text. Grades 6 use Amplify Science which blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers.
To further enrich the curriculum, teachers set up unique opportunities for students that include them getting out into the community, participating in service projects or having guest speakers come in to meet with them.
