What is EL Education?
The Secondary Program grades 7-12 at EMHCS is a network partner with EL Education, formally known as Expeditionary Learning. EL Education is a model that emphasizes high achievement through active learning, character growth, and teamwork.
Key Components of EL Education:
- Mastery of Knowledge and Skill (INSTRUCTION) our classrooms are alive with discovery, inquiry, critical thinking, problem- solving, and collaboration. Teachers talk less. Students talk and think
- Character (CULTURE AND CLIMATE) Crew, Character Traits, Habits of Heart and Mind are implemented daily to guide our core values and beliefs.
- High-Quality Student Work – Teachers use exemplars from NYS assessments to assist students with identifying HQW.
- ASSESSMENTS- Teacher created assessments, unit assessments, and quarterly grades assist staff in monitoring the progress of students’ academic growth. This prepares students also for the rigors of NYS Regents Assessments in January, June, and August of every school year.
